Malki Means King (Samuel Malki) was born January 28, 1986 in Oakland, CA. Raised in the Bay Area he lived most of his life in Berkeley, CA.
Growing up in Berkeley he was surrounded by violence in his community. It got to a point where he felt he needed to speak out against what was going on after the murder of a friend. In 2005, Days after his friend’s death and still wearing his memorial shirt, he was taken to a studio to record a song with artists who would soon get a record deal. As soon as he got on the mic and rapped on his 1st track. Malki knew this is what he wanted to do. “I felt like I needed a way to speak out against violence, and Hip Hop Gave me that voice” – Malki Means King. The dream became all the more realer to him, after these artists were signed, got radio play and made MTV. Since he knew them from childhood, seeing their success made his dream seem achievable.
Since then, Malki has been honing his craft, and putting everything he has into making the best music he can make. In 2007 he filmed his first video with a soon to be Major Video director, which was also more inspiring because they were childhood friends. That director went on to win awards for filming videos for major artists and inspired Malki to achieve the same level of success with his music.
In 2009 he had a dream that would change his life forever. “One morning, just before waking up, I was dreaming about heaven. I looked around and I saw the white clouds and heard beautiful voices of angels. I looked up and saw it was 3 women, they were angels singing an uplifiting choir. The kind of music that makes you feel good and all warm inside. The higher they sang the higher my spirits felt, I felt so good in this dream, I really can’t explain the feeling, I can only say it was heaven. I looked at their faces to see who they were, and i realized it was Destiny’s Child (you know the R&B group from the 90s?). As soon as it registered in my head i said aloud ‘Destinys Child!’ no sooner did the voice come out of my mouth i was woken out of my dream by something hitting me on my head! I looked up and it was a large Praying Mantis over my head on the pillow in a praying position. Apparently it had hit me so hard it woke me up! I do not know how a praying mantis can get in my room, we have never seen a praying mantis in my house, we have never seen a praying mantis anywhere in my neighborhood. All the windows were closed and my door was locked. I believe this is a message from God. I am meant for music, and I am meant to do something really big. After the understanding of this it brought tears to my eyes.” – Malki Means King
Since then Malki has been working with a passion, with over 35 music videos released, 9 mixtapes, an album and another album coming soon Malki Means King is proving why he is truly King! Everyone used to always call him by his last name growing up and when he found out Malki Means King in Arabic he decided to use that as his rap name. Malki is half Lebanese and Jordanian on his dads side and Half Italian and Welch on his mom’s.
Along the way to success, there has been many battles that Malki has faced, 1st was he quit the use of all drugs and alchohol. He began going to therapy to work out his issues with life and his trauma due to violence. From 2007-2010 he attended Diablo Valley College to learn to record music himself. In 2011 He started a label Called “B Town Music Group” & opened up “B Town Studios.” With the success of his studio business he took the money he made and spent 6 months in Los Angeles promoting his music (Watch the progress @ http://goblogdat.com). Now back in Berkeley he continues his grind to the top.
Malki Means King aims to change the music industry. “I see myself as a legend, I see myself as the biggest artist in music. Through my hustle, dedication, my message, my passion for music and God, I will make music that transcends all genres, touches lives and changes music forever.” – Malki Means King
